Convention 2003

Well once again, the weekend seemed to surpass all expectations.  I suffered badly with nearly losing my voice, but hey it was worth it! If you wanna see some pics, look in the gallery or www.stevenisbet.com/KT/ ,  http://www.lordflashheart.com/convo2003.html

Friday

We arrived at the Offa Tavern at about 3pm to be greeted by Andy (Thor), Steve (Loretta) Marie, Richard (Dicko) ,Sarah (Sas),  At about half four, Holly (Horlicks), Andy, Marie and I, decided to set off to the campus to get settled in, so we bid farewell to the other guys and all managed to squeeze into the back seat of my mums car.  After arriving and me having a mild panic attack for losing my info, then dashing through the torrential rain, we finally arrived at the chalet.  After an hour or so Julie (Black-Rose), Jimmy and Samantha arrived at our chalet closely followed by Sarah and Les (Zippy) so we all set off to see what was going on in the ballroom.

After sitting through a some dreadful karaoke acts, Holly and I found Marc (Lord-Flash-Heart),Dan (Nunzio) and Dave.  We all headed over to the ballroom to watch the welcome messages from Jacky and the recorded one from Brian *how lovely and happy he looks too*.   MayQueen sorry….GayQueen, came on and were very good, however the talent of the rest of the band was overlooked by the very camp antics of the lead singer *looks at Steve for the impression* Now I’m here……….

Then it was off back to our chalet for a party and I’m not even gonna try to attempt to name who turned up this year, except that it was bloody good fun, then Raff turned up to play some music, I swear he’s become like the entertainment of the convention.  Marie and Andy had gone to sleep earlier in the evening and as we were being very loud, Andy came out in his old mans dressing gown looking very sexy, and shouted at us to be quiet, rightly so! So Steve, Holly, Les and I decided to track down Katie who was at Marcs chalet, which involved a stupid Monkees walk back.   Much drinking and giggling carried on till morning.

Saturday.

No sleep for me so I decided to clean the chalet manically, and it is virtually impossible to get grass off of the carpet without a hoover! Went off to the market, I was not impressed, just the usual collection of bootlegs and pictures, not much else. We all trundled over to the Ballroom as Katie was taking part in the Tug Of War, we were nice, we didn’t laugh at the funny faces she made, in fact we even cheered her on, it must have worked cos her team got in the semi final. After much walking around, Holly, Katie, Jamie and I, sat down to watch the Wembley 86 DVD, which was just fab! I can’t wait for it to be released in June. Its got lots of outtakes and bits that had been cut from the video like Freddie’s “they’re talking from here” speech.

Next was the fancy dress evening, the theme was Black and White/We Will Rock You, apart from Katie, Julie and Samantha none of us even attempted to dress up, well my nails were black and white ;)but they looked fab all punked up!! Next was Jeff Scott Soto who was very very good, I won’t try to describe his set list cos I have no idea, I was too busy dancing with Steve, Horlicks and Katie. But rest assured JSS sounds much much better with his own band.  After a very long set, we all proceeded to dance into the early hours.

More partying at our chalet took place until the early hours, I managed to crawl into bed for an hour till we HAD to get up.

Sunday

*Happy Birthday to Andy babe*

We all rose at the unearthly hour of 10am to watch our favourite couple Sarah and Richard get married, ok it wasn’t official but it was to us.  Steve was the minister in his lovely sequined dress, that looked better on him than it would ever on me *damn him*. Andy was best man and Katie gave her away.  I was photographer and I managed to capture it all, despite the torrential rain. We ventured over again to the ballroom to watch more tug of war, unfortunately Katie’s team didn’t win.  But on a happier note, Richard won a lovely monkey! No it’s not a metaphor for something filthy, he did actually win one in the machine.

We all settled down to watch the extras from the Wembley DVD, well I missed half of them, but the bits I saw were great.   Then it was time for “We will rock you” which was much better than I’d remembered even though it’d been a year since I’d last seen it.  I have to see it live again before it sets off around the world. I set off to find some painkillers for my throat as I’d now nearly completely lost my voice, I didn’t however have SARS, as Steve suspected we both had.

We then had a few hours of Raffles, Awards, oh and the Talent Contest which was great. The standard was very high and it was won by a guy who did a terrific version of Meatloaf songs, some guys on guitars came 2nd, and Raff’s friend came 3rd, there was major controversy cos one of the best acts, a rendition of the “High Voltage” video by two sisters failed to win anything…..Blasphemy!

JSS came back to do an acoustic set but to be honest I didn’t pay much attention. He was apparently very good, but my throat was giving me hell and I still couldn’t find any painkillers.  Julie did get a kiss of him though *wahey*. We managed to find a table and I had a great night, dancing around, wearing both of Katies hats in succession. Then it was back to the chalet once again.

This year the party on the Sunday was one of the best, everyone was still in great spirits and very lively despite all the craziness of the last few days, many songs, discussions and jokes till it was time to leave… Special mention goes to Raff and his hilarious version of Happy Birthday for our dear Andy.

Monday

After we all cleared up the chalet and me declaring my love to Steve with a token like no other, 2 nearly empty Vodka bottles, we finally vacated the rooms.  Said our final goodbyes outside the reception and made lots of plans to meet up again soon.  We can’t wait till next year to have that much fun.

Special thanks to all these people for a fab weekend:

Andy, Marie and Horlicks: I couldn’t have had better people to share with *hugs*
